Kit and and young Mr. Liu in Yian China
My name is Kit Spangler 司凯德 and I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors of the Chinese Association of Iowa. I serve as Director of Marketing and Sales for Ten Square International, a company specializing in trade with China. I particularly enjoy the opportunities to travel to China and meet and talk with ordinary people living their daily lives. I have studied the Chinese language for many years, and continue to do so with the help of Chinese friends and co-workers, and with a lot of help from Sunny Xu. The real payoff in studying Chinese is having the opportunity to visit with people like Mr. Liu, age eleven, of Yian, in northeast China. As I was working for about a week in Yian, my co-workers and I frequented his family's restaurant. His mother really wanted him to meet an American, and I would guess I was the first one they had ever had visit their restaurant. While this was very simple communication, I feel that people to people exchange is fundamental, and the most important kind of interaction between cultures. The activities of the Chinese Association of Iowa contribute greatly to the advancement of understanding between the U.S. and China, and I am pleased to help out in this endeavor in any way I can. I especially value the friends that I have made within the CAI.
